Microsoft recently acquired the popular Clipchamp video editor, and it’s now available as a desktop app on the Microsoft Store on your Windows 10 or 11 PC. So let’s explore how we can easily create cool videos with Clipchamp.

How to Get Started With Clipchamp

Clipchamp is easy to get started with even if you are a beginner to video making and editing. This online video editor is faster as it processes your video files in the browser itself. To get Clipchamp:

Download the Clipchamp app from the Microsoft Store. Create a Clipchamp account (you can use Microsoft Google, Facebook, Dropbox, or your email). Start editing and creating videos with your Clipchamp app. Whenever you want to use Clipchamp, use its shortcut in your Windows Start menu and it will open in your browser—Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.

How to Create a Quick Instagram Video for Your New Website

You could be running a pizzeria from home, be a freelance graphic designer, or be a talented singer. Wouldn’t it be great to create an Instagram promo video of your service’s new website? Let’s see how.

Once you have signed in to Clipchamp, your dashboard will open. Click on the Create a video button to access Clipchamp’s online video editor.

On the leftmost pane, you’ll find the main menu with lots of options you can experiment with. Next to the menu, you’ll find the template categories, which have both the premium ones (watermarked) that come with the paid plans and the free-to-use templates.

The premium plans come with higher resolutions, from 720p to 1080p exports. And there’s also a Brand kit where you can create and store your brand’s logos, fonts, and colors.

Though the video quality of the Basic free plan only lets you render up to 480p, it’s still a good tool for personal use. The Basic plan does come with free audio and video templates and you can still use the free version to perform all of your video editing. As such, even the Basic plan is great for making videos for social media and YouTube.

To start, choose a free template to experiment with. Each template can be previewed by clicking on it. When you select a template, its video and audio files load into the Your media section of the editor and on the timeline. You can play it in the preview window on top of the timeline.

For this tutorial, I’ve chosen an Instagram website launch template with a 1:1 aspect ratio. The template is of a rocket launching as you can see in the image below. I’ll be using this to make a teaser video for the website launch of an upcoming pizza place.

To make the video creation process simpler, I’ve covered each major step into a separate section, starting from adding and changing the text in templates.

How to Add and Change Text in the Video Templates

To add text, click on the purple text box above the video section in the timeline (each text appearing in the video will have a separate text box). The editing options will appear above the preview window, namely, Text, Transform, Colors, Filters, Adjust Colors, and Fade.

Click on the Text option to change the text and also the font. See the screenshot below, which shows I changed the text to Get Set For a Yummy Launch.

Further in the video, the text Website.com appears. To change that click on its purple text box, select the Text option to add your website name. I changed the text to my website name, which is SliceYum.com.

You can preview the video to see how it looks. If you want to change the text style, select Text in the main vertical menu on the left to browse the options. I chose a Two Line style for my website name, SliceYum.com, and below it is the launch date: 1.1.2022.

How to Add Another Video or Image to Your Video Template

You can add videos or images by clicking the circular + button on the top left of the editor. Then just drag and drop the files or browse files from your computer. You can also directly connect to Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, Box, and Google Photos. You can even add media from your phone.

You could also add files from Clipchamp’s stock videos and images, or choose graphics with options like backgrounds, overlays, GIFs, and stickers.

You can record new videos by clicking on Record & create in the leftmost menu. This lets you create a screen recording, a video via your computer’s webcam, or both at the same time.

Moreover, there is a Text to Speech option built into Clipchamp. Just type the text you want to be narrated and choose a language. You can select between male and female voices, and there are even options for different accents. And they sound very natural too.

Since my website launch date is January 1, 2022, I thought of ending the video with a festive greeting. To do that, browse through the Free to Use stock videos and choose one. You can click to preview and add from there or just drag and drop it to the end of the timeline. I chose a video with a Christmas Tree and gifts, with some blank space to write a message.

For the message, you can choose another style by clicking Text from the main menu on the left. I chose the Make it Glow style. Then changed the text to Merry Christmas Happy 2022 SliceYum.com. And you can see in the screenshot below that it will make a nice ending to the promo video.

How to Add Music to a Video

To add more cheer and good vibes, you can add royalty-free music to your video. To do that, select the Music & SFX option from the main menu. Select a Free to Use track and drag and drop it on the timeline from where you want the music to begin.

For my Christmas and New Year theme music, I chose the evergreen “We Wish You a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year” instrumental. I set it to begin when the festive video section begins and then shortened the length to have only the first line by sliding the edges of the music box.

Similarly, you can trim a video to fit the music length. To trim a video clip, select it in the timeline (click on it so it is highlighted), then click and drag the edges back and forth.

How to Add a Transition in a Video

When you are using two or more clips in a video, the point where the clips change might seem jarring. To fix this, you can add a transition to smooth out the change.

Select Filters & transition from the main menu. Then drag a drop a suitable transition in between two video clips. Preview the transition in the preview window. If you don’t like it, try other transitions until you find the one you like most.

Once you’re done, you can click on Export on the top right, and the video will begin exporting in the browser. You’ll see the options to save and share your video like Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive. You can even upload your video straight to YouTube, Tik Tok, or Pinterest.

Once it’s done, you can grab the video’s link to share with anyone you like. And, finally, Clipchamp will save a copy of your video to your PC, allowing you to post it anywhere or back it up on the storage of your choice.

How to Convert Your Instagram Video Into a YouTube Video

As mentioned above, the Instagram video template I chose was of a 1:1 aspect ratio. But you can also repurpose the same video for YouTube by changing its aspect ratio to 16:9, and the image will expand to best fit the frame.

In the same way, you can change the video aspect ratio to use like a Facebook cover, Portraits for Stories, Social Feed, and even a Vertical one for Pinterest.

Create Cool Videos Like a Pro With Clipchamp

There is so much more you can do in Clipchamp such as crop, rotate, slow down or speed up, or add filters to videos. Moreover, thousands of videos, stock images, and audio files with full commercial licenses are built-in.

So go ahead and start creating cool videos—for work or fun, for social posts, and as awesome greetings for loved ones.
