You can utilize similar features in Mozilla Firefox and Edge. However, the command features in those browsers are hidden ones that aren’t automatically enabled by default. This is how you can enable action commands in Edge and Firefox.

How to Enable Firefox’s Built-in Quick Actions Feature

Firefox has a Quick Actions feature you’ll need to turn on from that browser’s Advanced Preferences (about:config) tab. That Quick Actions feature provides users with 14 handy Firefox commands. You can turn on that feature with the following steps:

Click inside Firefox’s website address bar. To open Advanced Preferences, type about:config in the URL bar and hit Enter. Click the Accept the Risk button presented in the cautionary message. Input browser. urlbar. quickactions. enabled and hit Enter to find the flag for the Quick Actions feature. Click the Toggle button on the right of the browser. urlbar. quickactions. enabled setting to set that flag to true. Restart Firefox after turning on that flag.

Now you can try out Fox’s Quick Actions feature. To do so, input > in Firefox’s URL bar and press the Space key. Then you’ll see Firefox’s action commands in boxes.

Select a command to activate by left-clicking its box with the mouse or by using the arrow keys. For example, you can capture a page snapshot in Firefox by selecting Take a Screenshot. The Quick Actions feature also includes search engines for you to select. These are the command actions you can select in Firefox:

Open Settings Update Firefox View Add-ons View Bookmarks Clear History Open Downloads Open Private Browsing Window Refresh Firefox Restart Firefox View Source Open Inspector View Logins Print Take a Screenshot

How to Enable Edge’s Command Palette

Microsoft Edge version 105 incorporates a Command Palette. Command Palette is not available in Edge version 104 or any versions below. The feature enables users to activate developer and productivity commands with a command box.

It’s currently an experimental feature within Microsoft Edge users need to enable via that browser’s Experiments tab. Then you can activate and utilize the Command Palette in Edge 105 as follows:

Type edge://flags/ inside the web address bar for Edge, and hit the Enter keyboard button. Input Command Palette in the flags search box. Select the Command Palette flag’s Enabled option on its drop-down menu. Click Restart on the Experiments tab to relaunch Edge. Then you can open the Command Palette in Edge by pressing its Ctrl + Shift + Space hotkey.

You can view a full list of developer tool commands by entering > in the text box. Select a listed command to activate by pressing the down/up arrow keys and Enter. Or click a listed action with your mouse instead.

The Command Palette has some handy window, bookmark, and tab commands. For example, input bookmark in the keyword text box. Then the Command Palette will list these bookmark actions for you to select:

Bookmark all tabs Bookmark this page Show bookmark manager Open bookmark

There you have four bookmark actions at your fingertips. If you want to save a webpage, select Bookmark this page. Or select Bookmark all tabs to add all open pages to your favorites. To view your saved favorites, click Show bookmark manager.

The tab keyword is also a good one to enter into the Command Palette. Entering that keyword will display nine suggested tab actions. Then you can select commands for creating, searching, moving, and reopening page tabs.

Utilize Command Controls in Firefox and Edge for Better Browsing

The Quick Actions and Command Palette features in Firefox and Edge give you a new way to utilize those browsers. Instead of manually looking for options and tools on those browsers’ menus, you can input and select quick commands for them. They’re experimental features that enhance the keyboard functionality of both Firefox and Edge.
