Adding two factors to your password provides an additional layer of security. To verify that it’s you, Asana will ask for a two-factor authentication code if someone steals your password and attempts to log in.
You can get this code via SMS, email, or even by using an authenticator app. In this article, we’ll show you how to set up two-factor authentication in Asana.
How to Enable Two-Factor Authentication in Asana
Here’s how to enable two-factor authentication in Asana.
Launch Asana Desktop on your computer, or go to Asana from your browser and log in to your account.
Click on your profile picture.
Click My Profile Settings.
Click Account to view your account summary.
Now click on Enable under Two-Factor Authentication menu.
Enter your Asana password in the space provided in the Enable two-factor authentication dialog box.
Click the Continue button.
Next, you’ll need to scan a QR code or enter a code into your authenticator app. Asana recommends Duo, Twilio Authy, or Microsoft Authenticator apps.
Open your authenticator app and manually scan the QR code displayed, or enter the 16-letter code into your authenticator app, and click Continue.
Next, tap the Scan QR Code button or tap Enter Code Manually if you cannot scan the QR code.
The app will now generate a 6-digit code.
Now, return to Asana and enter the 6-digit code generated by your authenticator app and click Enable.
Congratulations, your two-factor authentication is now activated.
You will see a pop-up alerting you that two-factor authentication has been set up for your account. You will also receive an email to the same effect.
When next you log in with your email and password, Asana will send you an authentication code to verify that it’s really you.
You will also receive an email notification each time someone logs into your account from an unrecognized device or location. If you receive such notifications for logins you did not initiate, someone may be trying to access your account. You should immediately take steps to reset your password.
How to Turn Off Two-Factor Authentication in Asana
If for any reason you decide to disable two-factor authentication for your account, here’s how to go about it.
Launch Asana via your browser or Asana desktop client.
Click on your profile picture.
Click My Profile Settings.
Click Account.
Under Two-Factor Authentication menu, click Disable.
You’ll be required to verify your account before you can disable two-factor authentication. Enter your password in the space provided and click Disable.
You will see a pop-up notifying you that two-factor authentication has been disabled for your account, as well as receive an email to the same effect.
